One of the questions I get asked quite often is "How do I get (this particular thing) in my life?"
You can fill in the blank with whatever you imagine...more money, a loving relationship, a fulfilling job, more fit...you name it.
My most common response to this question is "What do you have to change about yourself in order to have that in your life?"
This response usually sets people back because they're expecting to be taught a cookie-cutter, step-by-step system that they can plug into and get the desired results. But if you really want something in your life that you currently don't have, then it usually means that you have to step outside of your comfort zone. And stepping outside your comfort zone means changing something about you!
One aspect of success, and happiness, is measured by your ability to make known progress towards a desired result. How we make progress is determined by how much we are willing to change, to be and do something different.
Same activity = same results. Different activity = different results.
But sometimes the gap between where we are and where we want to be seems so great. That's why it's important to embrace this principle to Grow Into Your Success.
One way I can illustrate this is through my triathlon training. On May 3rd, I'll be participating in my 1st Triathlon. It's an Olympic distance, which means a 1.5K swim, a 40K bike and a 10K run. When I started training in late January, I was a beginning swimmer and a beginning cyclist (I didn't have a bike and didn't know how to use the gears!). But I had the intention set in my mind to complete this triathlon and I knew that I had to grow into my success. Every day since January, I've done at least one thing (swimming, biking, running) to train my muscles and my mind for this multi-sport, endurance event. Because of that training, I'm now prepared to do it!
Most people want their success immediately, but they reason you don't get it immediately is because you haven't built up enough of your own capacity to hold that success in your life.
If you want to write a book, growing your success means writing a few pages at a time. If you want a successful financial portfolio, growing your success means incrementally setting up your systems and structures, while expanding your learning about different passive and residual income streams. If you want a successful relationship, growing your success means spending more time uncovering who you truly are and increasing your ability to be in full presence with another.
What is it that you want in your life, and what steps can you take to grow into your success?
I'd love to hear any of your comments about this, and any other tips you have about growing into your success!
