A few nights ago, my partner Art turned to me and jokingly called me "Reverend Joselito".
It was a joke because I'm not a Reverend. But what's funny is that for the past few months, several different people in my life have started calling me "Reverend" (or "Rev", for short).
Part of the reason is that I've been spending a lot of time speaking from the pulpit at my Spiritual Center. I've been told that my messages have been uplifting and inspiring. I've been showing up to different activities with an air of being grounded, centered and poised. I've been offering my heart and my hand to those in need. In my mind, all I was doing was "showing up."
But when Art called me "Reverend Joselito," I had a jolt of awakening. I thought, wait a minute...maybe he's on to something...
Regardless of whether or not I was a Reverend, and regardless of whether or not I even had a desire to be a Reverend, I had been wearing this invisible cloak around my neck. Other people could see it, but I couldn't. Not until that moment. The cloak was a gift I had unknowingly embraced of being a Spiritual Leader and being a Spiritual Teacher. I don't know how long I've been wearing this invisible cloak, but for the last few months everyone else had been seeing it but me!
At every moment of our lives, there's a great calling within each of us. Whether or not you recognize it, it's there. And most likely, there will be those in your life who can see it for you, even if you don't see it yourselves. It's what I call the Great Yes.
The Great Yes is that part of you that is calling you to be more than who you are right now.
It's that little nudge inside you that says, "Don't settle into a lifestyle of convenience. Don't settle for less. You know there's more out there waiting for you."
It's that thing that brings you great excitement and joy for life.
But the other thing about the Great Yes is that it scares you because it means you have to let go of what you know. It means venturing into the unknown and pulling from the depths of your being.
Think of a time in your life when you made a great leap forward. You may not have known how things were going to happen. You may not have even believed how you were to show up each step of the way. But for some reason you made that great leap forward. And it was a transformational point in your life.
That time could've been your coming out of the closet. Or it could've been your decision to move to a new city. Or it could've been you turning down a good-paying job because you knew it wouldn't really fulfill you.
Whatever it was, this is what the Great Yes means! It means following your heart. Answering the inner calling within you. Showing up and saying, Yes!, I don't know how this is going to happen but I'm going to go for it!
And so how would your life be if you followed your 'Yes'?
I'd love to hear any stories of your own following your 'Yes'! Let's inspire each other and give each other permission to be the best that we can be!
