I asked her a few more questions to find out why she felt that way.
“I know what I want,” she replied, “but I keep doing the same things that are keeping me stuck. I’m afraid I won’t succeed if I really go for what I want.”
Recognizing when you feel like you’re settling is a HUGE step in your own transformation. It signals that you see there’s something greater inside that’s calling you out.
Settling for less is like putting on old clothes that either don’t fit or are way out of style. What you’ve been wearing doesn’t feel quite right any more.
In spiritual terms, this is usually called Divine Discontent.
Discontent can show up in your job, where you may have once loved what you were doing but now feel sluggish or even dread. It can show up in your finances where you realize that living paycheck to paycheck doesn’t serve you anymore.
Discontent can show up in your health where you don’t feel good about your eating habits or your physical activity. Or it can show up in your relationships where you feel unhappy in the way you relate with those closest to you.
The Divine in Divine Discontent points to your own realization that who you are is much more than what you are experiencing.
When my client admitted that she felt like she was settling, she knew deep down the importance of her self-worth. There’s a greatness within her that is seeking to express itself more fully and creatively in and as her life.
