![]() In last week’s article “$10,000 out of nowhere, right when we needed it,” I shared an incredible story of synchronicity and divine intervention. As I noted, there are moments when Life lifts the invisible veil and allows you to see and experience Life beyond the ordinary. And here was last week's coaching assignment: Ask this week for the veil to be lifted, and look for moments where you can experience the “magic” of Life at work. Well, lo and behold, I asked and I received! Last week I flew up to the San Francisco Bay Area to spend some time with my mom. On my last night there, we sat in front of the television and flipped through the channels. With nothing good really on, we decided to watch an episode of Family Feud. The Family Feud episode was a special celebrity edition where the contestants were hosts from the Home and Garden Television Network (HGTV). On one of the teams were two brothers, Drew and Jonathan Scott, hosts of Property Brothers and Brother vs. Brother. The two brothers ended up losing the game and I didn’t think any further about them. The next day I happened to be sitting at my gate at the Oakland International Airport when I spotted what looked like one of the brothers. “Gosh,” I thought to myself, “that really looks like that guy I just watched on Family Feud, but I’m not sure because he’s by himself.” Then, a minute later, here comes his twin brother walking along. “It is them!” I shrieked in my head. They both ended up sitting a few seats away from me. One life lesson that I’ve come to embody is this: Expect the unexpected. After I wrote last week’s article, I’ve had a number of people email me and talk to me, sharing their experiences of synchronicity and divine intervention. And not only did I give you the assignment to be open to experience the “magic” of Life at work, I included myself in that assignment! A few minutes after I noted the brothers were sitting a few seats from me, I decided to get up from my seat and “casually” walk past them. “Hey, aren’t you the guys from HGTV?” I asked, acting as if I was surprised to see them right then and there. "Yeah, we are," they smiled. The Scott brothers were very friendly, and gracious enough to have me sit in between them to take a photo. And yes, even though I didn’t show it, I just about died right then and there from being so starstruck. This week’s spiritual lesson is the same as the one I offered last week: The more you expect to witness and experience the magic and brilliance of Life, the more It shows up and reveals Itself to you. So let’s continue last week’s assignment into this week:
The Truth is that Life is an ever-unfolding and ever-revealing mystery, always wanting to be experienced and known. This week, let’s revel in Life’s mystery and experience the beauty of Life at work. And make sure to send me a note when something incredible happens. :-) Abundant Blessings and Namaste. I'd love to hear your thoughts about today’s post. Have you experienced synchronicity, divine intervention and seeing beyond the veil? Please leave a comment below. We met Jeff during the cocktail hour. Sadly, he shared that his father had passed away a few days ago. (By the way, Jeff is not his real name.) We expressed our condolences and asked Jeff how he and his family were holding up. That’s when Jeff opened up. “I had a really weird experience happen,” Jeff started to share. “My dad died pretty unexpectedly and my parents didn’t have any money saved up for funeral expenses. We needed $10,000. I offered to scrape some money together but my mom wouldn’t have it. She said she’d figure something out.” “Well, here’s the weird thing,” he continued. “My dad owned two cars that were sitting in the driveway. That same night my mom and I talked about needing this money, a stranger wrote a note and left it on one of the cars, saying that he wanted to buy the car. My dad had been using these cars for years and they were always on the driveway. For someone to leave a note that same night asking to buy these cars at this exact time, it was incredible!” “We called him up and he came over the next day. I had looked up the Kelly Blue Book value on the car,” Jeff stated. “After I told him how much it was, he said that he actually wanted to get both cars in the driveway.” And this was when his eyes widened. “He offered us $10,000, the exact amount of money we needed for my dad’s funeral. Could you believe it? $10,000 out of nowhere, right when we needed it!” That’s when Jeff looked at us straight in the eyes and remarked, “I don’t consider myself a religious person, but if there was anything that could make me believe in God, this was it!” Now take a moment and breathe this story in. What Jeff experienced is what I call the “lifting of the veil.” In other words, Life is more than what it seems to the naked eye. Life is typically experienced with an everyday sense of “normalcy.” You wake up, go to work, eat, hang out with friends and loved ones, maybe watch some television and go to sleep. However, there are those astounding moments when the normalcy of life appears upended. Something occurs that gives you pause, and you ask, “Is this really happening?” It’s as if a curtain is lifted or a veil falls away. Your eyes re-adjust and you have a sense that there are mysterious and fantastic intricacies to life that operate at levels you didn’t realize existed. You may have experienced moments yourself where the veil has been lifted. Some people have experienced “synchronicity,” such as when someone who you haven’t talked with in a while pops in your mind and then they soon (sometimes in that very moment) give you a call or send you an email. Others, like Jeff, have found themselves in dire situations. But something miraculous shows up to help shift the outcome for the better. Some people call this “divine intervention.” In many cases, you can’t just chalk this all up to strange coincidence. The lifting of the veil reveals an Infinite Order, Wisdom and Love that are always at work in this Universe, whether or not you realize it. And so your coaching assignment for this week is simple:
You might run into someone you know at some random spot you never would have expected. (Synchronicity) Or maybe three different people, on different occasions, might casually mention a book that you need to read. (This happened to me several years ago. The book was The Artist's Way, and it changed my life.) Or you might receive the right and perfect help and guidance you have been seeking. (Divine intervention) The assignment for this week is to be open and aware of when the veil is lifted. When something wonderful happens, it’s okay to be surprised! Acknowledge the experience, and then simply give thanks. And here’s the beauty of this exercise: The more you expect to witness and experience the magic and brilliance of Life, the more It shows up and reveals Itself to you. Here’s to a week of delight, surprise and to seeing beyond the veil. Abundant Blessings and Namaste. I'd love to hear your thoughts about today’s post. Who are the people closest to you? Where do you spend your time? Now take a trip down memory lane and bring yourself to the you of five years ago. Where were you living five years ago? What kind of work were you doing? Who were the people closest to you? How were you spending your time? Most likely, something changed. Maybe a little, perhaps a lot. I bring this up because there’s a running commentary I hear in some of my clients when they find themselves dissatisfied with some aspect of their life that used to work.
No, this is not weird. In fact, experiencing shifts in your interests (and even who you think you are!) are quite natural. Who you are is a growing, ever evolving being. You aren’t static and one-dimensional. You're not meant to stay the same year after year. It’s completely okay that your tastes for food, clothing or décor may have changed. It’s all right that what you thought was your perfect job no longer feels that way. It’s fine when you feel the call for a new group of people to spend some time with. The problem arises when you try to stick to old ways of being while there’s a newer more energized part of you that wants to come through. If you’re feeling something new bubbling up inside you, take some time to be aware of it. There’s no need to make sudden changes in your life. The first step is to notice what’s coming up and make space for these newer interests, insights and wonderings. And here's an especially important point: don't beat yourself up if you’re not feeling the same ways as you did before. This is all part of the evolutionary process of life, and the evolutionary expression of you. This is what it means to live life, and to let life live you. Abundant Blessings and Namaste. I'd love to hear your thoughts about today’s post. Please leave a comment below. And if you’re feeling something new bubbling up inside you and you'd like to talk with someone about this, I offer a complimentary life coaching consultation where we can chat.
