I have a very special announcement that I'd like to share with you. Last week, I completed all my educational requirements and received word that I had earned my degree as Doctor of Religious Studies from the Emerson Theological Institute. Yay!!!!!!!! What that means is today I can officially call myself Dr. Joselito Laudencia. Last week, after I told Richard my great news, he brought home a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a lovely card that said the simple words on the front, "Shine On." What a brilliant message: "Shine On." “Shine On” is both an invitation and a calling. “Shine On” asks: Where in your life can you allow yourself to shine as the brilliance and magnificence that you already are? And how can you share your brilliance and magnificence more joyously with the world? This is my invitation to you for this week, which is to ask yourself: Are you willing to let yourself shine as the brilliance that you are? And if the answer is yes, How can you take the steps today to allow that light to shine more brightly? With that, I invite you to raise a glass, wherever you are, and to celebrate, not only for me, but also for you. Let’s celebrate all the ways that you and I are called to be more of who we are, and to shine unabashedly as we celebrate the light that we are and all of life itself. Abundant Blessings and Namaste. When was the last time you experienced an adventure? Earlier this week, Richard and I were at Big Bear Lake, which is about a three-hour drive outside of Los Angeles, deep into the mountains. One afternoon, we took our camping chairs and sat right by the lake, next to a forest of trees, reading our books. After a little while, I decided to get up to record a video a short distance away, in eyesight of Richard. While Richard was sitting off in the distance, I spotted an animal walking right behind him. Suddenly, I realized, it was a big gray wolf! "Richard! Look behind you!” I yelled out. Richard turned around and looked every which way, not seeing anything out of the ordinary. I yelled again, “Look behind you!”, as I kept frantically pointing my fingers. Richard turned around in the direction I was pointing and spotted the wolf, about 10 yards away from him. The wolf looked right back at us, a piercing stare that cut deep. It was as if the wolf looked right into my soul, and I felt like I couldn’t hide anything from the wolf. In that moment, time stopped, and the only beings that existed in the world were me, Richard and the wolf, all inextricably connected together. After just a few moments, which felt like an eternity, the wolf then turned his head back to the direction it was originally headed, and walked off on its merry way. I breathed a huge sigh and stood in awe of what we had witnessed. What we experienced is a great metaphor for life itself. There’s always something wonderful around us, waiting to be experienced and expressed. This is life's adventures, just waiting to be noticed by us. Could you imagine if I had been facing another direction, or if Richard continued to read his book? We might not have ever known that a wolf was in our midst! Sometimes we get so busy that we don't stop to smell the roses, or to look and experience the miraculousness of life that is already here present. What wonders and marvels of life are waiting for you to notice, to experience as a grand adventure? Where can you take a moment to look around, and to see what might not be normally seen by you? And so, my question to you today is: Are you willing to be open to that kind of joy and adventure in your own life today? And in your willingness, then, watch and see how life responds, and says yes to your own request. Abundant Blessings and Namaste. Years ago, I was talking with a friend who was getting ready for work. He was so upset because he had a new boss coming into work. He shared with me how this new boss was going to be a drastic change for the office, that he wasn't the right person for the job, that it was going to be horrible all around. I listened for a few minutes and then I asked him this question, "Is it possible that this situation might actually turn out OK?" He immediately replied, "No! This guy's not going to work out. This is the worst decision that this company could make." So, I decided to drop it. Later that day, we met up after work, and I asked him, "Hey, how was your day?" He immediately lit up and said, "Oh, my God, today was fantastic! This new guy is great. He’s personable. He’s kind. He's the right person for this job!" What a shift in 180 degrees from the morning to the afternoon! Mark Twain, the author, once said, "I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them have never happened." The thing is, a lot of people experience troubles, stress and anxiety with things that don't happen. When you look at your life and what's unfolding, there's an infinite number of possibilities that things can play out. And so, where do you want to give your attention to? Do you want to focus on the things that could possibly go wrong, or do you want to focus on things that things could actually unfold beautifully, in a way that you might not have even imagined? You see, you get to choose where you place your attention. So, my question for you today is, with everything that's unfolding in your life, where do you want to give your energy to today? Abundant Blessings and Namaste. |
