Why money alone isn't enough

At my Re-Write Your Money Story workshop last week, I shared why focusing on money alone isn’t enough if you want a meaningful, fulfilling life.

For many people, the central question is, first and foremost: "How can I make more money?"

If you want more money in your life, there are a million and one ways to bring in income.

Get a second job. Accrue interest in a money market account. Invest in the stock market. Create a product for residual income. Flip property. Join a multilevel marketing company. Create a business. Drive for Lyft. And the list goes on and on.

These examples are simply the tip of the iceberg.

However, when you look at this list, would you pursue any one of these money-making activities? Would some rise to the top and others sink to the bottom?

My guess is that you probably wouldn’t choose ALL of these options to increase your income. Why, you ask?

Because my guess is that not all of these activities resonate with you and what you enjoy doing.

You see, if your primary drive is to make money, you're more prone to "chasing the dollar" in any way that might seem quickest and easiest.

You usually end up following the latest trends, facebook ads and infomercials that promise overnight success.

Or you might find yourself doing work that feels more like a chore than an act of service, simply because you're in it for the money.

For some, you create a hodgepodge of money-seeking activities that seem out of sync with each other, and with who you are.

Here’s an analogy.

Imagine going to a grocery store, and your sole purpose is to buy food.

If buying food is your primary driver, you can fill up your cart with donuts, pineapples, frozen burritos, pitted olives, smoked paprika, lobster, soda, and a whole host of random food items.

Your cart is filled with all these food items that don't seem to make any sense or have any cohesion to them.

But what if you walked into the grocery store with the idea that you wanted to buy healthy, nourishing options for you to cook for the week?

This specific intention brings a focus to your grocery shopping. Now, what you put in your cart aligns with a greater vision for the kind of life you want to live, namely one that is healthier and more nourishing.

This same idea applies to money.

What is your highest vision for your life?

Once you answer this question, then ask:

And what role does money play in fulfilling this vision?

When you ask the questions in this order (vision first, and money second), then you begin to realize how money serves you, and not the other way around.

Money is not the boss of you!

For your coaching assignment this week, ask yourself these questions:

  • What kind of life do I want to live? What kind of world do I want to help create?

Take some time answering these questions. Explore what this looks like for all different areas of life, including career, money, health, relationships, spirituality, fun and recreation, service and contribution, community, environment, and other aspects of life that are important for you.

  • Once you tease this out, then begin to uncover what role money plays in supporting you to live this vision.

Are you making and spending money that’s in alignment with this vision? Are you giving in a way that’s meaningful to you? Are your investments connected to a greater sense of meaning? Do your money goals match your life vision?

This week’s assignment is an exercise in raising your awareness.

Who are you? What do you value? Are you pursuing a life of meaning?

And does the energy of your relationship with money align with the life you want to express?

This Fall 2018, I’ll be starting up my “Re-Write Your Money Story” class. I don’t have all the specifics yet in place (like the dates, cost, how we’re going to meet up, etc.). But if you’d like to get notified about this, please click here to register for early notification.

Until then, here is a prayer for you that you can recite to bring you, your life and your money into greater alignment :

I open to the highest vision of life, and know that the abundance and prosperity of the Universe supports me in expressing my highest vision, with ease, joy, grace and purpose.

Abundant Blessings and Namaste.

Change your environment by choosing your words

For last week's blog post, I wrote that “We live in a vibrational universe.” I received a number of comments from people who “resonated” with this post and some who wanted to know a bit more about how this shows up in everyday life.

Did you know that words carry their own vibrational frequencies?

The words and phrases you use carry their own intonations and vibrations, allowing you the choice to either uplift or weaken your environment.

Here are some examples of phrases some people say that carry lower vibrational frequencies:

  • "Life is a struggle."
  • "It’s too good to be true."
  • "I can never catch a break."

If you say these phrases out loud, you might notice how “heavy” you start to feel. These expressions emit a gravitational force that weighs you down.

However, see how you feel with these phrases that carry higher vibrational frequencies:

  • "I am grateful for all the good in my life."
  • "Life is full of possibilities."
  • "Wonderful opportunities come my way."

When you say these words out loud, you might find yourself lifted up and pulled into a more expansive way of being.

If you're up to it, you can explore and "tune up" your vibrations with your coaching assignment for this week. You can choose one of the exercises below:

  1. Start and end your day by saying something to yourself that raises your vibrational frequency.

Here's an example. Wake up in the morning and proclaim that this is going to be your best day yet. End the day by acknowledging one person, thing or situation that you're grateful for. By having something in the morning and in the evening, you create a sacred container for the day.

  2. Don’t complain for a whole week.

See if you can refrain from saying something negative about someone or a situation. And, if you can, stop yourself from carrying negative thoughts when they arise. This doesn't mean you allow unhelpful people or destructive situations in your life. There’s a difference between complaining and being constructively critical. Being critical attempts to move a situation forward, while complaining focuses on negativity.

If you’re feeling especially ambitious, you can try both exercises for the whole week!

At the heart of today’s post is this spiritual lesson:

Your words are creative and powerful. Choose them with kindness and care.

In the end, not only do your words affect how you feel, but they also impact your surrounding environment and the people around you.

What type of atmosphere do you want to carry around with you? How do you want people to know you and remember you? What footprints do you want to leave behind in the world?

To assist you with your journey this week, here are my prayerful words for you:

May Life vibrate for you with a frequency of harmony, joy and love, and attract people, experiences and situations that bring you to greater heights of being.

Abundant Blessings and Namaste.

We live in a vibrational Universe

If you had the ability to peer into the atomic level of all things, you would see that all of life is vibrating. Atoms are in constant motion.

What looks like a solid table is actually a conglomeration of vibrating, moving atoms that actually have space in between each atom. It blows your mind, right?

In truth, though, physical objects aren’t the only things that are vibrational.

“Everything in life is vibration,” says genius Albert Einstein. “Everything is energy."

If all of life is vibration, it follows that your emotions and your thoughts vibrate as well, along with your words.

“In the beginning was the Word…,” starts the Bible.

The Word itself carries the power of creation, the vibratory gateway to unleash the potency of the Universe.

As you look at your life, what words are you using? What vibrational thoughts and energies do you carry with you? What power are you unleashing into the world?

Do you promote a vibrational energy of openness, lightness, expansiveness and possibility?

Or do you exude a vibrational energy of pessimism, complaining, heaviness and constriction?

Bashar, as channeled by Darryl Anka, says, "Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”

Whatever vibration you express, you’ll draw those experiences and people that match these vibrations.

Like attracts like. Your vibration attracts resonant vibrations.

As spiritual teacher Panache Desai teaches, “What you vibrate out into the world, the universe echoes back.”

All of life is interconnected, and who you are is an integral and indelible part of this greater thing called Life.

Your essence, and the essence of the Universe itself, are one and the same.

If you’re looking to change any circumstances in your life, first start by looking at the vibrational frequencies in your immediate environment.

And if you encounter anything that isn’t resonant with the kind of life you want to live, begin by shifting the words, thoughts, feelings and behaviors to vibrations that better match who you are called to be.

For example, if you find yourself being drawn into the negativity of the news, turn off the television or limit the amount of time you read the newspaper. Instead, get an uplifting, inspiring book from the library and spend some time reading that.

Or, if you are in an office environment where some co-workers tend to gossip negatively about other co-workers, excuse yourself from the conversation and put yourself in a more positive, supportive environment.

Regardless of circumstances, you have the power to shift your vibrations, which means that you have the power to change your reality.

As Panache Desai also states, “When we change our energy, the Universe bends to meet us in a brand new way.”

Let’s focus our vibrational energy today on expansion, lightness and possibility, and watch how the Universe responds in kind.

Abundant Blessings and Namaste.
