![]() Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Decorations of ghosts and vampires pop up on windows and doors. Chocolate and all things sweet and delicious tease you as you walk through the store aisles. And scary movies on tv lure you to the couch to curl up with a big bowl of popcorn. But there's one thing about halloween that makes it extra fun. COSTUMES! On Halloween, you get to dress up however you want. In the past, I've been a devil, a marathon runner, and even a sexy witch! Halloween is a time where you get to revel in your creativity, and you witness the creativity of others in their choices of costumes. Looking at it this way, you can look at Halloween as a spiritual practice, or maybe an annual spiritual ritual. You have an infinite number of choices for what you want to look like for Halloween. Do you want to be a ghost? A vampire? Or follow the lead of the cute toddler who dressed up as El Niño? Maybe this year you don't want to dress up. The only thing that can limit you is your own imagination and your saying yes to the creative spark within you. You see, Halloween may be only once a year, but it gives you a lesson to apply every day for the rest of the year. Every day, you get to choose who you want to be. Do you want to be more loving and grateful to the people around you, or do you want to yell at other cars on the road? Do you want to do work that fulfills you, or do you want to stay in a job that drains your energy but pays you well? Do you want to be open to greater possibilities for your finances, or do you want to push away trying anything new because you don't think it would work? The spiritual lesson in all of this is that you are always at choice. There's a lot of energy that goes into what you want to be for Halloween. What if you can use some of that energy and channel it into what kind of life you want to live, and what kind of world you want to create? And here's the key to having a great Halloween and a spiritually fulfilling life. Do you want to know what it is? Lean in because this is the secret of the Universe right here... HAVE FUN! Yes, have fun! Having fun, living in joy and from a place of fulfillment are all part of a daily spiritual practice I encourage you to embrace. For your coaching assignment for this week, the task is simple. Have fun! And if you do decide to dress up for Halloween, be a little audacious and try on something outrageous that you may have never considered wearing before. Halloween is special in that it's a day where you have permission to step out of the box, and people love you all the more when you express your boldness. I'd love to hear if you're planning anything special for this Halloween or if you have a costume already in mind. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think about this post. People often tell me that they love the positive messages that I post on Facebook, or that they enjoy seeing my latest adventures with Richard on Instagram, or that they look forward to the short daily inspiring quotes I share on Twitter. At some point, many people ask me the question that's running in their minds, and that is: "So exactly what kind of work do you do?" If you have that same question for me, you can see how I respond in an interview that I gave yesterday with my friend Laura Ricksecker. In a nutshell, my business card says that I'm a spiritual life coach. But that's not the work that I do. That's the title I give myself. My work is my passion to help people overcome the issues they have with money. Sometimes people feel a real struggle when it comes to money, or they feel like they keep on hitting a ceiling they can't break through, or they see patterns with money showing up over and over again. Other times, money issues show up as people working in jobs they hate, just because they feel like any job is a good enough job. I stand in the belief that All of Life is abundant and creative. When I say All, I mean "All!" That means that you yourself are abundant and creative, because you are One with All of Life itself. You and me -- we are not separate from the Oneness of All Life. The Light in me is the same Light that is within you, and that is the same Light that is the spark of the Universe itself. Knowing this, I believe that whatever you seek or desire is already available to you, simply because you are One with All of Life. All you need is your willingness to say yes to a life of joyous abundance, to get clear on what that looks like to you, and to believe that you are equal to that which you desire. My minister, Rev. James Mellon, calls this the embracing of you as "Greatness On Demand." How I do this work is through one-on-one work, including through my signature programs "Re-Write Your Money Story" or "Finding Your Right Work." I also teach workshops, like my popular "Create & Energize Your Vision Board." If you have an interest in finding out more about my work, feel free to set up a 30-minute Free Clarity Session with Prayer. You get to bring your whatever questions or worries you have on your heart into a safe and non-judgmental space. And you leave with greater clarity and focus on what your next steps look like. A friend commemorated this event by posting Diana Ross's "I'm Coming Out" video on my Facebook wall. We love Diana, don't we? :-) If coming out is a celebration, why is coming out so hard for so many people? Here's why. Coming out takes a lot of courage. Coming out means letting go of the ideas, expectations and shame of who others say you're supposed to be. You see, there's a strong push for people to conform into molds. Yes, you can be an individual, they say, but within limits. At its core, coming out is the process where you choose to embrace the truth and authenticity of who you are. And...you don't have to be a part of the LGBTQ community to come out. Surprise! I work with a number of clients who carry a whole lot of shame in their lives, especially when it comes to money. People like to use Harry Potter's invisibility cloak over the areas of their lives they don't want others to see. Here's some examples of shame that people carry:
Shame easily fills in the blank to this statement: I'm not _________ enough. Do any words pop up in your mind? If so, this may be a sign post leading you to some area of healing. This is why coming out is so powerful. Coming out asks you to dig deep into your own self to ask, "Who are you really? Is that true? Really, really true? If it's not true, what is the truth?" You'll know you hit the Truth (with a capital T) when you feel good, expansive, uplifted, inspired, joyous and amazing. The truth is that who you are, in this moment, and in every moment, is perfect already as you are. You are whole. You are complete. And you are fabulous! After you arrive to this truth, coming out is your next step in standing in this truth and declaring it to the world, in your very being-ness. It doesn't mean that you don't get scared along the way. It does mean, though, that you know that you can't go back to who you thought you used to be. Going back would hurt too much. This is the essence of the Anaïs Nin quote: "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." Where you in your life are you being called to blossom? For your coaching assignment for this week, reflect on an area of your life where you might be feeling the nudging to "come out."
Let's not have another day pass with you feeling like you have to hide anything, or remain tight in a bud. Let today be the day you embrace the truth that right where you are, you are fabulous. You are ready to blossom. I'd love to hear what this post brings up for you. Make sure to leave a comment below. Abundant Blessings. p.s. I'll be speaking this Sunday at the Global Truth Center in North Hollywood, CA, about my own story of coming out. I'll also be leading the LGBTQA spiritual circle at 12 noon there also.
