Create from your future

One of my clients recently shared with me a practice she started doing every morning.

She calls it “Imagining.”

She would pick an area of focus. It could be a specific project, like landscaping a backyard, or a personal intention she was working on, like getting her body into better shape, or a general area of life, like career or relationships.

So she would pick an area of focus, and then, she’d spend 10 to 15 minutes every morning in a place of imagining possibilities.

Sometimes she would write these out, other times draw or doodle, or she’d simply sit in silence and allow her mind to open to wherever her inner joy guided her.

That’s when new ideas started popping up and her imagination led to inspiration, which eventually pulled her to take inspired action.

And let me tell you…she has been manifesting magnificently.

Opportunities are showing up, her creative energy is expanding, and when she has a desire pop up, things magically appear.

I told her this was a perfect example of creating from your future.

I hope you noticed the word I added in that sentence.

I didn’t say, “Create your future.”

I said, “Create from your future.”

Here’s what I mean.

Most people create from what they’ve known, meaning you base what’s possible from your past experiences or your present conditions.

When you create from your past or even your present self, you have these invisible blinders that you inadvertently put on yourself, like the horses wear to keep them from veering off their usual path.

I’m not saying this is bad or wrong, but what I am conveying is that you end up limiting the vast number of creative possibilities available to you.

You’re pinching yourself off from Divine Source.

But what if you imagined you in your future state, already accomplishing the things you desire, embodying the person you’re called to be?

That’s what some speakers do when they go into the room beforehand, get on stage before the audience gets there, and settle into the energy of presenting.

Or when athletes play in their heads their performing at top notch on the field.

You can do this same thing for your own life.

What if you could feel into the experience of more loving and fulfilling relationships?

What if you started to embody right now the idea of moving around and about in a vitally alive physical body?

What if you could see yourself expressing your creative gifts fully and freely, without concern about what anyone else would think?

How would you feel? Would you feel more confident, more joyous, more alive?

How would you carry your body? Would you stand up taller, lift your head up a little higher?

There are so many possibilities available to you.

There are so many possibilities of you.

Why not tune into the future you who’s already living and embodying the wonderful possibilities of you?

Abundant Blessings and Namaste.

What does the sweet goodness of life look like to you?

What if you could experience the sweet goodness of life, in all areas of your life?

In the book The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity: A Simple Guide to Abundance, the spiritual teacher Edwene Gaines defines this as “true prosperity”:

  • A vitally alive physical body to provide a comfortable wordly home for the spiritual beings that we are
  • Relationships that are satisfying, nurturing, honest, and work all the time
  • Work that we love so much that it’s not work, it’s play
  • And all the money we can spend.

And I’d add this to the mix.

What if you lived your life based on who you are and what you want, and not based on anyone else’s ideas for how you’re supposed to live your life?

Would you include everything that Edwene Gaines suggested?

What else would you add to your mix?

You see, you get to decide for yourself what “sweet goodness” looks like to you.

Let go of what anyone else thinks you’re supposed to do.

Let go of what you think you’re supposed to do.

The real joy is in the process of becoming more of who you are, the infinite spiritual being that is ever wanting to express.

This is an ongoing spiritual practice because you never reach the end. You’re always growing and evolving.

The real practice is stepping into the life that’s calling you forward, each and every day.

What does that next step look like for you?

Abundant Blessings and Namaste.

'Feeling the feels' in the midst of grief

Pictured: My dad and my sisters celebrating my birthday.
Last week my dad passed away.

Richard and I had flown to Las Vegas on Sunday of last week to visit my dad in the hospital. The next day he took a turn for the worst and was rushed to ICU. My sisters immediately booked their flights to arrive that evening, shortly after midnight. Within an hour of their arrival, he died.

A dear friend texted me the other night to ask me how I was doing.

I texted back, “Honestly, up and down. I’ve been very sad and have felt out of it (spacey) these last few days. And my siblings and I have been talking a lot with each other to check in (which has been nice) as we’re making the funeral arrangements.”

“I’m so sorry,” she responded. “It’s a time to honor your feelings. Love you.”

This last week has been all about what I call, “Feeling the feels.”

Feeling the feels means allowing yourself to feel the full range of any and all emotions as they come up, rather than pushing any of them away, or sticking a happy face on any feelings of discomfort or pain.

And there’s no timetable when it comes to grief.

Tears have the oddest timing of when they decide to show up.

The other day I was in the grocery store, next to the watermelons, when a wave of sadness rushed through and tears started welling up in my eyes.

But the same peculiar timing of sadness and tears can also be said of joy and laughter.

In the middle of crying with my siblings at dinner last week, we remembered a funny story about my dad and started laughing and giggling out loud.

And then there are unexpected moments of awe, wonder and gratitude.

Even in grief, I felt deep appreciation for the whole medical care team that provided unwavering support.

My heart eased with the profound comfort from countless notes and messages of love from friends and family all over when we posted the news on Facebook.

Yesterday, when I shared what happened in the final moments with my dad, a friend offered these wise words.

“Grief has no container. It’s like water. Water flows where it needs to flow.”

I realize it’s not only grief that has no container, but also joy, and appreciation, and love.

All the feels are boundless expressions that we get to experience, simply because we’re alive.

There’s a gift in feeling the feels.

When I allow myself to feel the feels, the flow carries me to a depth and a richness of understanding, about life, about death, and what’s underneath it all.

It really is all about love, isn’t it?

We grieve because we love.

We remember the joy and the laughter because we love.

We reach out with a supportive embrace, or a call, or a text message, because we love.

At least that’s how I’m choosing to experience this.

Feel the feels because love is the essence of it all.
