Imagine a world where everyone and everything was average… …where food doesn’t taste particularly delicious, but it doesn’t taste horrible either. …where relationships are ho-hum, not very vibrant but not destructive and conflicting either. …where your work isn’t exciting, and it borders on the monotonous. …where your body doesn’t feel vitally alive, and you might have a few aches and pains here and there. …where you’re just making enough money to get by, and you carry debt that doesn’t seem to go away. …where your entertainment is endlessly streaming Netflix, or watching whatever happens to be on television, or scrolling through videos and memes on social media for hours at a time. How would you feel, being an average person, living in an average world, where everyone and everything was average as well? If I could venture a guess, I’d bet you’d be bored out of your mind! But how many people tend to fall into living the average life, maybe not in all areas but perhaps in at least one or two of these areas? You see, it’s not because people consciously choose to live an average life, but in more cases than not, it’s because they didn’t actively and consciously choose a life that was more exciting and exhilarating…for them. Every one of us is unique. That’s why some people love sushi, while others love hamburgers. Or why some are gifted at technology, and others are talented in the creative arts. There’s a uniqueness about you that, when unlocked, gushes forth an aliveness for life and a pulling to experience more of the vibrancy that the universe has to offer. The spiritual teacher Raymond Charles Barker captures this beautifully when he says, “The Infinite did not create you to be an average person.” You never were, and you were never meant to be, average. All of life wants you to live fully. Now that you know this more clearly, here are my questions for you. Where in your life are you settling to be average? And are you ready to settle no more? In the end, it’s all up to you. Abundant Blessings and Namaste. |
